JUST TRUST US | KEEP IT SIMPLE

By |December 22nd, 2015|0 Comments|

Likes most things we talk about at TSBC, the solution drives back to simplicity.  When you’re building a wedding album do your best to keep things as simple as you can – meaning limiting your color options, print methods and paper selections.  It is rare that an engaged couple will choose a wedding suite from your album exactly as it is laid out in the book, however, when you offer too many customization options it can become overwhelming for the customer, difficult for the retail store to sell and likely a struggle for you when finalizing the art.

JUST TRUST US | HOLIDAY SEASON RULES

By |November 24th, 2015|0 Comments|

Just trust us You set the Rules

You’ve heard us say it before and as we enter this busy holiday season it bears repeating, “You set the rules.”  Every day you’re faced with tough decisions and new challenges, but the beauty of being an entrepreneur is that you have the power to say yes or no.  You can shift gears if something isn’t working and you get to determine when to push pause and when to move forward.  Never forget that it’s your business and you’re in charge!

Though the upcoming season may be packed with order fulfillment, holiday rushes, and late nights, know that you’re the one in control.  Take the time for self care when you need it and never forget that you have a community of supporters.  Keep your values in mind for both your business and personal life, and trust your gut to know what’s right.  You’ve got this!

JUST TRUST US | WORK IT

Relationships with vendors are just as important as the relationships you form with your buyers and customers.  Working with a new printer?  Go to a press check.  The pressmen will learn how you like things done and they’ll remember it for your future jobs.  Also, don’t be afraid to ask your sales rep questions.  It’s like prom – the worst they can say is no.  And remember, when you’re easy to do business with, your vendors are likely to go the extra mile for you.

JUST TRUST US | YOU SET THE RULES

By |August 17th, 2015|0 Comments|

August Paper Co reminder

The other day we shared a little reminder on Instagram for all the amazing boss-ladies and men out there: You set the rules for your business.  It was one of our most popular posts ever(!) so we wanted to share the message here as well.  You can never hear it too many times:

You set the rules for your business.  You call the shots.  You control whether to say yes or no to an opportunity.  And you’re allowed to change your mind and try something new if things don’t work out the way you intended.

It’s natural to look around and see what your competitors & colleagues are doing.  And, there are some instances where you want to follow tried and true industry standards.  But, always, always, always remember that you’re the boss and you get to do things your way.

For more words of wisdom follow us on Instagram @tradeshowcamp, and check the hashtag #TSBCalum for inspiration from our talented community.

JUST TRUST US | POST SHOW MARKETING

By |June 1st, 2015|0 Comments|

post-NSS-follow-up-strategies

NSS has passed and amidst the excitement, exhaustion, and extra cups of coffee, we want to send you our congratulations and a reminder to keep up your momentum.  Though it’s a feat just to get through the show, capitalizing on your energy and taking quick post-show action is hugely important.  Here’s what we suggest:

  • Follow up, follow up, follow up.  Did we say follow up?
  • Add new contacts to your mailing list so they always get your latest updates
  • Send a post-show blast to your contacts, thanking them for stopping by the booth.  As always, make sure you add value!
  • Send hand written notes.  Write notes on your own cards and customize your text as much as you can.
  • Use social media to connect, whether it’s with new friends or potential buyers.  Use hashtags #tsbcalum so buyers can follow along.
  • Remember it is never too late to follow up.  When you reach out, it sets you apart from the crowd.

JUST TRUST US | YOU CAN’T MANAGE WHAT YOU DON’T KNOW

By |April 17th, 2015|0 Comments|

You_can't_manage_what_you_don't_know
“You can’t manage what you don’t know.” This quote from Flywheel Press at Paper Camp has been stuck in my head lately because it applies to so many aspects of running a business.  Printer is behind schedule? – if you don’t know you can’t manage your client’s expectations.  Your production costs are too high? — how can you reduce your costs if you don’t know exactly how your numbers break down?  Order fulfillment taking too long? — you can’t streamline or build your processes until you know how you’re spending your time.  Being decisive and having the information you need to make these decisions will help you move your business forward.  #bestrategic #bedecisive

JUST TRUST US | FOLLOW THE MONEY

By |March 13th, 2015|0 Comments|

Follow-the-money

Sometimes our tough business decisions can become crystal clear once we follow the money. One example: I have a coaching client who sells wholesale, retail and also offers custom projects. She loves doing all three but is feeling pulled in too many directions and is overwhelmed; she wants to know how to best streamline things so that she’s making the largest amount of money and focusing on work she loves. So, we looked at her financials. Her custom work accounts for the largest percentage of her business revenue and provides the highest profit margins per project. The wholesale arm contributes the least to her bottom line and also causes her a lot of stress; so she’s scaling back there. Work smarter, not harder friends. -Katie

JUST TRUST US | YOUR PRODUCTS ARE NOT FOR EVERYONE

By |March 9th, 2015|0 Comments|

notforeveryone

Listen up! Your products are not for everyone and that is OK!! Great, in fact. You make beautiful products, likely handcrafted or personally designed and you have your own unique style & aesthetic. So, instead of feeling like you need to appeal to the masses, focus on designing for and reaching out to your unique customer base. #beyou #beyourbrand #knowyourcustomer #tsbc

JUST TRUST US | HAVE YOU RAISED YOUR PRICES?

By |February 25th, 2015|0 Comments|

raisedPrices
I had a great coaching call the other day with a talented #TSBCalum who does a lot of custom wedding and hand lettering work.  We talked about her 2015 business goals and how she wants to be attracting the right types of clients — ideally working with fewer but higher paying clients this year.  When I asked if she had raised her prices recently, she confidently and happily said Yes.  Music to my ears.  Have you raised your prices recently?  Work smarter, not harder.

JUST TRUST US | PLANNING A TRADE SHOW IS LIKE PLANNING A WEDDING

By |February 12th, 2015|0 Comments|

JTU_tradeshows-like-weddings

Planning a trade show is like planning a wedding.  Not only is it a time-consuming process with countless decisions to make, but it is a situation where you want to spend your money in areas that are important to you.  Just as you might prefer cake over flowers, you might prefer to spend more money on booth furniture than flooring.  Review your options and pick the ones that work best for your brand, you goals and your budget.
