At TSBC we’re always on the look out for excellent products and service providers that we can share with our alumni community and friends.  Partnering with businesses that truly understand your needs and provide products / services that save you time, money and headaches are so critical.   Given this, we want to introduce you to Astro Paper & Envelopes!

Tell us about Astro Paper & Envelopes?

At Astro Paper & Envelopes, we are thrilled to help fellow card lovers in getting their business off the ground. We are very flexible and have an amazing customer service team that knows a lot about paper. We’re talking about knowledge you didn’t think one could have involving paper. But the point is that we are here to help you. We are here to get you the right paper and even help you find what you may be looking for.

What types of products do you offer?

We have the ultimate collection of paper stock and envelopes. With our inventory, you are bound to be inspired and dig deep into your creativity. With brands such as Mohawk, Neenah, French, and Gmund, there is such a wide collection of papers and finishes to choose from. With cotton, metallic, and smooth finishes, there is pretty much every color of the rainbow available, and more. In addition, we also have a fairly large collection of digital and pressure sensitive labels. Of course we don’t just stock your average neutral colors, we have both digital paper and pressure sensitive labels available in lots of pretty colors.

Paying attention to the weight of the paper will ultimately make a difference in the end result as well as your satisfaction. We have a variety of text and cover weights in each brand and color we stock.  Some of the cover weight papers come with a single ply, double thick, and even a triple thick option available in the Gmund Cotton line. The single ply is intended for digital press and the thicker cover is more compatible with heavier applications such as letterpress.

Do you offer other services, too?

Yes! Not only do we stock pretty paper, we also offer services such as custom cutting, scoring, and folding. We can take any parent sheet and cut it down to any size, and if needed, score it to make it easier to fold.

Where can we connect with you?

You can visit our website, astropaper.com, and browse our brilliant selection of paper and envelopes. You can also find us on Facebook, tweet us at @AstroPaper, and follow us on Instagram at @astropaper. So let your passion run wild and let us take the journey with you.

NSS class of 70 teaser

NSS is celebrating 70 years, and to commemorate the occasion Legion Paper is spearheading a trading card pack with each card commemorating a specific 2016 exhibitor.  At the show, exhibitors will be giving out cards at their booths, and Legion Paper will be giving out a container to hold them all.  This is such a fun concept, and you can bet that exhibitors who appear in the cards will be getting a traffic boost to their booths!  The best part is all confirmed exhibitors have a chance to participate, with a total of about 30 cards making the final pack.

Here are the details: Submit your work at Legion Paper’s site before the deadline of January 31.  All submissions will be reviewed by representatives from Legion Paper, NSS’s Patti Stracher, and Sarah Schwarz of The Paper Chronicles. Sarah has a fantastic blog post about the project, filled with more details and a Pinterest inspiration board, which we urge you to check out.  If you make the final cut, be sure to let us know!

As you may recall, there have been many discussions about catalogs happening in our alumni forums.  If you’re working on your own catalog and want to see how your peers have tackled issues with layout and design, we suggest heading over to issuu.  issuu is an online platform for sharing digital publications such as brochures and catalogs.  You can search issuu for a specific designer or company, although a simple search of “stationery catalog” yields a number of great results.  It’s also another option for you to showcase your own work.  Take a peek and let us know – do you use issuu?

Diving into the world of trade shows can be a big leap for your business, both in terms of incoming orders, sadly, in terms of outgoing dollars.  The best way to make the most of your money is to be prepared.  Going the extra mile ahead of time can help save you money down the road.  Here are some of our favorite budgeting tips:

  • Set your priorities.  Decide what is best for your business and invest your money there.
  • Order by early bird deadlines to save money.  Follow along here on the blog, as well as on Instagram @tradeshowcamp for the latest news on deadlines and more.
  • Order as much as you can ahead of time.  Ordering on site costs you more money and delays installation.
  • Buy items that can be reused at future shows.
  • Shipping costs can add a lot to the bottom line.  Research options in advance and ship early.

NSS entrance

NSS best new product

Here at TSBC we’re all about helping you decide if exhibiting at large wholesale shows are the right step for your business, and, if so, we’ll give you all the tools you need to maximize your time and financial investment. The show we get asked about most frequently (and have the most experience with) is the National Stationery Show which takes place in New York each May.

In 2015, over 65 TSBC alumni exhibited at the National Stationery Show (aka NSS) and a very large number were selected as finalists in the Best New Product awards.

So what are the Best New Product awards?

Each year NSS exhibitors are invited to submit new products for consideration in 7 categories.  Applying is easy;  You submit product descriptions plus photos or vector art online and it is free for exhibitors to submit one item for each category:

  • Paper Love
  • DIY
  • Celebrations
  • Lifestyle
  • The Desktop
  • All Things Wedding
  • Eco Chic
  • Seasonal Greats

Best New Product submissions are typically due in mid-April and finalists are notified a couple of weeks before NSS.  If you’re selected as a finalist, you’ll be invited to display your product(s) in the Best New Product pavilion at Javits, which is great exposure for your brand and drive s a good amount of traffic to your booth!

When creating your best new product display be sure to include your company name / logo, booth number, URL, social media handle and other pertinent information to help buyers find you on the show floor

At TSBC, we’re a big fan of the Best New Product awards.  They are free opportunity to garner more attention for your brand, your products and to drive traffic to your booth — even if you don’t win an award

Details about the 2016 Best New Product awards will be shared with exhibitors this fall.  Keep an eye on your NSS newsletters for further details!

Today we’re at Paper Camp learning all the ins and outs of selling wholesale and exhibiting at wholesale shows. If you weren’t able to join us, fear not!  There are still two more ways you can learn with us.  Our next session of Paper Camp is coming up in Los Angeles on February 26 and 27, 2016.  Please stop by the registration page for special early-bird offers and more.

In addition, we’re also so excited to announce a new way of learning here in the TSBC community: the Paper Camp E-Course!

TSBC Paper Camp E-Course

This fall we’re launching a new format for our popular Paper Camp to allow more of you to join in the fun.

Why is this so important?

For an average small business it costs $7,000 to $10,000 to exhibit at a large stationery show like NSS or NY Now.  Let’s say that again: $7,000 to $10,000.  Wow!  With that kind of investment on the line, it’s important to make sure this is the right next step for your business.  Paper Camp will help you determine your next steps, save you money and give you a supportive community to lean on year-round.

This 7 week e-course will explain how to create, refine and launch a wholesale program and take it to market.  We’ll dive deep into strategies for creating your product, building effective sales tools, reaching the right customers, and strengthening relationships with buyers, media, and sales reps to grow your business.

You’ll get actionable items to hit the ground running, and the online course will give you flexibility to learn at home in your pjs. As with any TSBC course, you’ll also be invited to join our alumni community, which is an invaluable resource on its own.

The Paper Camp E-Course is right for you if you want to:

  • Explore new revenue streams for your business.
  • Expand your line to include more product categories.
  • Sell your products to retail stores near and far.
  • Grow your sales team & build professional sales tools.
  • Discover new vendors and resources to grow your business.
  • Exhibit at shows like National Stationery Show or NY Now.
  • Be a member of a supportive community of industry pros.

One of the best parts is that time and again we get feedback that industry experts prefer to work with TSBC alumni because of their levels of preparation and professionalism.  When you join the Paper Camp E-Course, it gives you a leg up in this marketplace.

Sounds pretty amazing, right?  Within the E-Course we’ll be releasing fresh video content each week for 7 weeks.  You’ll have time to digest and process the materials before our live coaching call each Wednesday with TSBC founder, Katie Hunt.  We’ll also have ongoing discussions within the class forum.  And when you sign up for the E-Course you’ll get tons of bonuses, like resource guides, freebies, and discounts to help your business thrive.

Registration is now open and classes run from October 2 through November 20, so mark your calendars!  Early bird registration ends on September 23 and spots are limited, so sign up now to reserve your space.  We can’t wait to have you join our TSBC community!
