tradeshow lingo stationery versus stationary

Hands down one of the biggest pet peeves in our paper industry is the misspelling of the word stationery. Sadly, I see it often – even on our scholarship applications! – and it sticks out like a sore thumb. Quick spelling lesson (including a tip from my pal, Claudia of Fig. 2 Design):

Stationery – paper products + writing materials. Paper + stationery both have an –er.

Stationary – not moving, in a fixed position. Like a parked car. Car + stationary both have an –ar.

Our industry and the TSBC community is most definitely NOT stationary.
